History
In 1955, Cleveland hosted the 13th Worldcon, called the Clevention. This was the first year that the Hugos were announced to be an annual award. Isaac Asimov was the Guest of Honor.
In 1966, Cleveland joined forces with Detroit and Cinncinnati to host Tricon, the 24th WorldCon, and the convention at which Star Trek was first shown to the world!
So much science fiction history is right here, in the Greatest Location in the Nation. Andre Norton worked for Cleveland Public Library for most of her life. Clare Winger Harris, the first woman to publish science fiction under her own name in 1928, lived in Lakewood, just west of Cleveland proper! Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, the creators of Superman, grew up right here! Roger Zelazny was on the Western Reserve University fencing team!
Let’s bring science fiction greatness back to the town that was the original Metropolis!
Attractions
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Cleveland Science Center, The Cleveland Public Library, The Old Arcade, are all within a short walk. Within biking distance you’ll find the Women’s Air Museum.
We plan to offer Movie Tours of Cleveland were you can re-live the great battles of The Avengers!
Just a few blocks away is Playhouse Square, the second largest theatre district in the country and home to the world’s largest outdoor chandelier.
You might want to check out our world-famous orchestra, too, often considered the number one (or two) in the country. Our art museum is consistently ranked one of the top five in the country, and of those five, the only one free to the public. (For real, no “suggested donation” that is enforced like SOME museums….). We have the largest collection of parade armor outside of Europe!
And if that isn’t enough, you can take a quick jaunt down to the Flats to enjoy the riverside bars and restaurants and Aquarium, or off to Edgewater Beach to relax on the sand.
