In 1955, Cleveland hosted the 13th Worldcon, called the Clevention. This was the first year that the Hugos were announced to be an annual award. Isaac Asimov was the Guest of Honor.
In 1966, Cleveland joined forces with Detroit and Cinncinnati to host Tricon, the 24th WorldCon, and the convention at which Star Trek was first shown to the world!
So much science fiction history is right here, in the Greatest Location in the Nation. Andre Norton worked for Cleveland Public Library for most of her life. Clare Winger Harris, the first woman to publish science fiction under her own name in 1928, lived in Lakewood, just west of Cleveland proper! Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, the creators of Superman, grew up right here! Roger Zelazny was on the Western Reserve University fencing team!
